Thailand Tops Asia in TTW’s 2026 Beach Ranking: Phuket Island Hopping for Every Budget

Thailand is the highest-ranked Asian country and fifth worldwide in Travel And Tour World’s published 2026 beach-destination table. For travellers staying in Phuket, that recognition is a good reason to look beyond the hotel beachfront and explore the Andaman islands. A luxury yacht can make the journey part of the holiday, while a more affordable shared speedboat can take you to beautiful island areas with a smaller budget.

Imagine a day that starts with limestone cliffs rising above turquoise water, continues with a white-sand beach and finishes with the sea breeze on the way back to Phuket. The appeal lies in the places you visit and how you enjoy them. There are several ways to build that day, depending on what matters most to you.

What does Thailand’s No. 1 position in Asia mean?

Travel And Tour World published its Top 50 Beach Travel Destinations in the World for 2026 on 25 July. Its table places Thailand fifth globally, ahead of the other countries listed in its Asia category.

The recognition assesses countries as beach destinations, considering the wider coastal travel experience. It gives travellers inspiration rather than deciding which individual island or boat they should choose.

In its Thailand section, TTW features Donald Duck Bay in the Similans, Banana Beach on Coral Island and Maya Bay in the Phi Phi Islands. These give Phuket-based travellers several ways to explore the coastal scenery behind the recognition.

Phuket is a useful starting point for putting that inspiration into practice. You can stay on the main island and arrange different day trips, without changing hotels for every destination. Some excursions visit nearby islands; others involve a longer transfer and crossing into neighbouring provinces.

Which islands can you explore from Phuket?

Phi Phi and Maya Bay: dramatic limestone scenery

The Phi Phi Islands are a rewarding starting point if your dream of Thailand includes towering cliffs, sheltered bays and tropical water. Maya Bay offers the famous beach landscape, while Pileh Lagoon adds a different setting enclosed by limestone walls.

Choose a tour with the stops you actually want. A program combining Phi Phi with Khai Island is different from one combining Phi Phi with Maithon. Long-tail boat experiences, beach landings and snorkeling locations also vary.

Treat Maya Bay as a protected sightseeing and beach-walking stop. Swimming is prohibited there; water activities take place at other permitted stops. Access and the route depend on park instructions and sea conditions.

Racha Yai and Racha Noi: beach time and snorkeling

Racha Yai, often called Racha Island, combines sandy bays with snorkeling opportunities around the island. Patok Bay is its best-known beach setting, although the landing beach and water stops depend on the tour and conditions.

Racha Noi is a separate island farther south. Some day trips include both Racha islands and a stop near Maithon, giving travellers a different route from the classic Phi Phi excursion.

If enjoying the beach and spending time in the water are your main priorities, look closely at the time allocated to those activities. More stops do not automatically create a better day.

Coral Island: an accessible island beach day

Coral Island, also known as Koh He or Koh Hey, is a nearby option for travellers who want an island beach experience without choosing one of the longer offshore routes.

Check which beach your tour visits. Banana Beach and Kahung Beach are different beach areas with different arrangements. A photograph of Banana Beach should not lead you to assume every Coral Island trip lands there.

Coral can be visited on its own or combined with another island. Optional water sports and beach facilities may cost extra, so compare the actual inclusions.

Maithon: enjoy the surrounding sea

Maithon is often included as a cruising or snorkeling stop on a longer island route. It can be a lovely setting for spending time beside the boat, enjoying the open water or relaxing on deck.

Check whether the itinerary includes a beach landing. “Visit Maithon” may mean exploring the surrounding waters rather than going ashore on the private island. Dolphins are sometimes seen in this area, but a sighting is never guaranteed.

Similan Islands: a longer, seasonal escape

The Similans offer a different landscape: large granite boulders, pale beaches and vivid blue water. Beach visits and snorkeling are central to many day-trip programs.

The islands are in Phang Nga province. Many trips booked by Phuket visitors include a road transfer to a mainland departure pier, so consider the whole day from hotel pickup to drop-off. The national park closes seasonally; confirm access for your travel date before building your holiday around it.

When is a luxury yacht worth choosing?

A luxury boat can suit travellers who want to enjoy the crossing as much as the island stops. Lounge seating, open decks, dining and space to relax can change how the day feels, particularly on a longer itinerary.

Choose by the actual vessel and program. “Catamaran” describes a twin-hull boat; it does not automatically mean a sailing yacht, a slow cruise or a luxury service. Powered catamarans and sailing boats can offer very different experiences.

Noah Yacht: a social yacht day to Phi Phi and Maithon

Noah Yacht’s Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Maithon trip combines island sightseeing with lounge and deck spaces, onboard dining and a DJ atmosphere. Its program also includes a long-tail boat experience at Pileh Lagoon and a sunset return cruise.

It is an option for couples or friends who want the boat itself to be part of the occasion. Check the music and social atmosphere against the kind of day you prefer. This is the Noah Yacht program, distinct from Noah Catamaran’s Racha–Coral route.

Moonlight: comfortable spaces with a varied island itinerary

Moonlight’s Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Maithon catamaran tour offers a double-deck boat, indoor and outdoor seating, a long-tail boat visit at Pileh Lagoon and restaurant lunch. Its program combines sightseeing with snorkeling and water activities near Maithon.

It may suit travellers who want several kinds of experience in one day and comfortable places to rest between them. Confirm the current activity list and itinerary for your date.

Vibes: a premium small-group Similan trip

The Vibes Catamaran Yacht Similan program is advertised for a maximum of 30 guests, with bow loungers, an indoor lounge, meals and two snorkeling sessions.

It is worth considering if you want the Similan scenery with a smaller shared group and comfortable onboard spaces. It remains a shared tour rather than a private charter, and the seasonal park access still applies.

Can an affordable speedboat still take you to beautiful islands?

Yes. Beautiful island scenery is accessible on many shared speedboat tours. A higher boat price often pays for the vessel, passenger space, service, food or additional activities. An affordable tour can still provide the beach visit or snorkeling experience you came to Phuket for.

The important comparison is between actual routes. Two trips may visit the same island area while using different beaches, bays, snorkeling points and schedules.

Three options to investigate are:

  • Racha Island and Coral Island by speedboat — a useful starting point for comparing a beach-and-snorkeling day with a premium boat outing.
  • Phi Phi and Khai Island by speedboat — an alternative for travellers who prioritise the Phi Phi scenery over lounge facilities and a yacht atmosphere.
  • Similan Island by speedboat — an option for travellers who want the Similans’ white-sand beaches, granite scenery and snorkeling with a more affordable boat choice than the premium yacht program. Confirm seasonal park access and the full pickup-to-return schedule for your travel date.

A conventional speedboat usually has less room to move around than a yacht, and exposed crossings can feel bumpy. Boat design, loading, weather and the route all matter. Compare current date-specific prices and inclusions; an affordable option for one route may not be the cheapest on another.

Sea Me Again’s approach is to start with your destination and priorities, then compare the available boats. Decide whether you want more time ashore, more time in the water or a special day aboard. That makes the budget decision much clearer.

Check hotel-transfer coverage, guide language, park fees, meals, equipment and optional charges before booking. For timing, our guide to sea conditions and island tours by month helps explain the seasonal context; the day’s forecast and captain’s decision still determine operations.

What if you do not swim?

You can still enjoy sightseeing, beach walks and time aboard. Ask what you can do while others snorkel, whether entering and leaving the boat will be comfortable for you, and which activities are optional. Our island-tour guide for non-swimmers explains the choices in more detail.

Tell the booking team about relevant mobility needs or health restrictions before choosing a program. Wear the required life jacket, follow the crew’s instructions and leave marine life and coral undisturbed.

Frequently asked questions

Did TTW rank Thailand or Phuket No. 1 in Asia?

Thailand is the highest-ranked Asian country in TTW’s published 2026 beach-destination table and fifth globally.

Do I need a luxury yacht to visit the beautiful islands near Phuket?

No. Shared speedboats reach many popular island areas. Choose a luxury program when its onboard facilities and style of service matter to you, and compare the precise itinerary before deciding.

Will a speedboat and a yacht visit exactly the same places?

Not necessarily. They may share an island destination but use different landing beaches, snorkeling points, activity arrangements and schedules.

Are catamarans always slower than speedboats?

No. Catamarans include powered speed catamarans, motor yachts and sailing vessels. Compare the particular boat and planned crossing rather than relying on the label alone.

Does a Maithon stop mean we can land on its beach?

Not automatically. Many itineraries visit the surrounding sea for cruising or snorkeling. Confirm beach access in the named program.

Can I visit all these islands in one day?

Choose a scheduled combination rather than trying to cover every destination. Phi Phi routes, Racha–Coral routes and Similan excursions are different days out.

How can I compare the latest prices?

Open the relevant tour pages for the current itinerary and travel-date price. If you are unsure, contact Sea Me Again with your hotel, travel date, preferred islands and budget, and ask which available programs fit those priorities.
